Local A Victim Of Craigslist Car Scam
A local woman reports she was bilked out of more than $2,000 in what she believes to be a scam, while attempting to purchase a car through Craigslist.
The twenty-six year old Loretto resident reported to deputies with the Lawrence County Sheriff’s Department Monday that she had been engaged in negotiations to purchase a Nissan Altima.
She told deputies that she had been dealing via email with “Andy Loutheizer.” He had assured her that he would hold the car until she sent him the money for the purchase.
The victim told deputies that she had sent a total of $2,200, but had sent it to “Eduardo Corral.” She said she had been advised that Corral was a Google Check Agent and that he would be handling the money for the purchase. She said she sent him the funds on April 9, but has not yet received the car.
The victim said that all communication had taken place via email, and she was unable to provide authorities with a contact number for either man.
The matter currently remains under investigation by detectives with the department’s Criminal Investigation Division.
